Hoyt Cheramie
DVM, MS, DACVS

Hoyt Cheramie, DVM, MS, DACVS currently serves as a Senior Equine Professional Service Veterinarian with Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health. He acquired his passion for veterinary medicine during visits his family's 300-head cow/calf and Quarter Horse ranch in southwestern Mississippi. He received his BS and DVM degrees from LSU. After spending time in a mixed animal practice in Kentucky, he completed a large animal internship at the University of Tennessee and a combined Large Animal Surgery Residency and Master's degree program at the Virginia Tech and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons 2000. After an additional year as a clinical instructor Dr. Cheramie practiced general medicine, performance and sport horse medicine, general and orthopedic surgery in Louisiana, Georgia and Illinois. He transitioned to the animal health industry in 2007. Dr. Cheramie is considered a world renown expert in equine gastric ulcer syndrome and equine gastroscopy having performed over 5000 gastroscopic examinations. Other interests include equine poor performance, surgical and medical colic management, guttural pouch disease, sustainable parasite control, and podiatry.
