Meet Our Speakers

Meredyth Jones DVM, MS, DACVIM, comes by her love of veterinary education naturally: Her father was a veterinarian, and her mother was a teacher. Meredyth’s lifelong goal was to become a veterinarian focused on food animal work and to teach at a veterinary school. After veterinary school at Oklahoma State, she entered private practice in her family’s mixed animal clinic in Kentucky, where she cared for everything from ducks to cows. She became board certified in Large Animal Internal Medicine with a food animal emphasis after returning to Oklahoma State for her residency and has gone on to teach at Kansas State, Texas A&M and Oklahoma State in Food Animal Medicine, Surgery and Field Services. Early in her academic career, she discovered an unexpected passion for providing continuing education for veterinarians and paraprofessionals at conferences and in con-sulting with veterinarians on challenging cases. During this same time, she also began providing educational modules to NGOs working with animal health workers in developing countries. She has provided over 200 hours of in-person continuing education, authored more than 30 textbook chapters, and co-edited a camelid veterinary procedures textbook. In 2018, Dr. Jones was named the Western Veterinary Conference Food Animal Educator of the Year in recognition of providing outstanding food animal continuing education. In 2022, she received the George McConnell Award from the American Association of Small Ruminant Practitioners and the American As-sociation of Bovine Practitioners Award of Excellence. The George McConnell Award is the highest award given by AASRP in recognition of service and contribution to AASRP and small ruminant practice. The AABP Award of Excellence recognizes the honoree’s professional activities that have had a consistent and direct influence on daily activities of veterinarians in bovine practice.
